In memoriam

On October 5, 2013, Duke passed away peacefully in my arms, outside under his favorite camellia bush in my yard.  I have not posted in a long time, due to Duke's fragile medical conditions which required medications, time, energy and dedication to his care on a daily basis.  He had some good days, some not-so-good days, and he even went on a couple of trips with me during his last months.  He was happiest outdoors, and loved it when friends (both human and canine) came to visit.  We went on short walks right up to his final day on earth.  Words here can't express the sense of loss and overwhelming grief I have felt because of his absence.   Duke was a constant best friend for almost 16 years.  Thank you to all of you who have shown support and interest in Duke in any way.  Many of my friends loved him, too.  It's hard to lose such a loved family member.  When his gravestone has been completed (I am having it hand-crafted), I will publish a photo.  In the meantime....please love and care for your dogs and other living creatures.  Their lives are so precious.

My favorite destination - the beach!

Ahh...the sound of the surf, and the smells of the beach...this is THE life!

I still like to travel...how about Monterey?

Did someone say "road trip?" I'm ready!

My 14th Birthday

Mom and I celebrated my 14th birthday on Thanksgiving. Mom says she has a lot of reasons to be thankful! I'm one of them...still going strong for a senior canine!

I'm Back to Work!

Here I am back on my favorite bench at work, where I visit folks who like my company. I like their company, too! I'm feeling pretty darn good!

I'm recovering!

Hey, it's me after a couple of weeks of feeling quite wobbly! My "HelpEmUp" Harness is really helpful to mom who tries to keep me steady as I get back to walking a little. I'm smiling here because I'm starting to feel good again!
Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, and your help with my care!

Thanks for asking about me.......

Hi friends!

I've had many folks inquire about how I am doing. I am recovering from a severe episode of VESTIBULAR disorder. There are many good articles on the web about this dysfunction...here is one: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&C=189&A=564&S=0

I am wobbly and my appetite is poor, but I am trying to do some of my normal things! Mom and friends have been my private nurses, so I have a good chance of getting through this.

Because I am so unsteady on my feet right now, I am wearing a special harness that I highly recommend! Mom can keep me steady as I wobbly-walk. Mom says I look like a drunken sailor!

I hope to be back on the road traveling somewhere - soon!

Apple Hill time in the fall

Mom took my "little brother," Otto, with us to Apple Hill in October. We loved the orchards, the pumpkins, and fall colors.

Mom and I are in our elements at Asilomar Beach!

This quiet, uncrowded beach is a pet-lover's dream vacation! This get-away was one of our favorite places to visit - ever!

My new favorite place - Asilomar State Beach

Wow, talk about a 5-Paw Rating! Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove, California is a fabulous place! There is an off-leash part of the beach perfect for dogs to run free next to the ocean, and lots of trails to walk on-leash, too.

A visit with my "Aunties" in Grants Pass

Mom and I stayed at Horizon Village while visiting folks in Grants Pass, Oregon. Mom loves it there because it's pet friendly and close to Rogue Community College, where we walked every day. Here are mom's 2 cousins, Suzanne and Julie - who obviously LOVE me alot - which makes me a very happy traveler!

Klamath Lake

Mom and I always hike near Klamath Lake when we go to Oregon.

The Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls, Oregon - Mom and I hit the road again in August 2010.

The Lodge at The Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is pet friendly. They welcomed me in their lobby and remarked at what a good boy I was!

Simply staying home can be fun, too.

My little friend, Gus, and I like playing tug-o-war. He has lots of energy, but I can still keep up!

Alston Park - My favorite hometown "staycation"

How I love Alston Park! Here is a local place where I can run off-leash to my heart's content!

Back to Dillon Beach!

Dillon Beach is "paws down" one of my favorite places to be - any time. As far as "staycations" go, it's hard to beat....mom made me pose for this, but I got to run on the beach afterward!

Rockville Park - a great day hike

Rockville Park is a wonderful place near Fairfield, CA...only a few minutes from Napa...a great place to hike with your dog, with miles of trails and views. A recommended "staycation!"
